Who is Stenolicious?

I am a student attending Mark Kislingbury Academy of Court Reporting - Online. I begin school back in 2008 as a full-time student at the Court Reporting Institute of Houston on ground. I went from 0-80 wpm in eight months.

My mother-in-law became very ill and my husband and I dropped everything and moved 1600+ miles away from our home to help with the rehabilitation of my mother-in-law. I then enrolled in classes online at the College of Court Reporting. All was well. I had a great schedule for myself. Then I needed to earn some money and had to work full-time.

I returned home, only to struggle in school. I ran out of financial aid money, and school was halted.

God has made a way for me now, and I am attending school, online, full time. This is a journey that I have begun and I am determined to reach my summit, with help from God and the love, support, and prayers of my family.

Hello, everyone.  My life as a student has been flipped, turned upside down since my last blog.  My husband and I fostered then adopted five girls, who keep us super busy; and we a currently fostering our only little boy, who is 10 months old.

I was forced to leave school for a while, but God had blessed me to be able to return to school and work toward my certification.

Due to my leave, my speed dropped tremendously.  And trying to practice with 6 children, ranging from eight years to 10 months take away from my dedicated practice time.  But yet I push on.  There is light at the end of the tunnel for me and my now large family.  :)

New Practice Technique

This week I decided to work on Self-Evaluation.  I'm starting a dictation cold at my goal speed.  Then  break it down for an hour at 25-30% higher than my goal speed.  After which I take the dictation in full again at goal speed through  www.CCR.edu

Test Marathon

Last week we just took 12 tests.  I missed my 140 jury charge by two points.  :(   I don't let it keep me down.

Just keep swimming!

I'm back...

It's been a crazy ride for me.  I am still on the CR student roller coaster.  I am working on my 120s in Lit and QA and my 140s JC.  I am trying to practice with a purpose.

Where has the time gone?

Time has past by so quickly.  I have moved back to my hometown with my husband, his sister, and his mother.  I have stressed out so much and I been trying my best to stay on this school roller coaster.

I am slowly progressing in school; that's only because of the move, new job, and in-laws.  However, I am determined to finish this race which I started.  I will not allow anyone to break me or hold me back.  This has been a journey that I know I CAN accomplish and I WILL accomplish.

Week 1

Week 1 of the new semester was a little rough. I wasn't as focused as I had been. I allowed a lot of class time to slip away from me.

However, I'm rolling into week 2, and I'm about to go full force. All distractions are out of the way. It's time to buckle down so that I can reach my goal.

Back in session.

This week begins a new term at College of Court Reporting and I'm excited. I'm now a full-time student.

I'm going to start the semester strong and with full force. So when the term is over I won't have to work so hard to pass my 100/120s.

My goal this term is to pass my 100 Lit, my 100 Q&A, and my 120 Jury Charge.

Good luck to all my fellow students. We can do this.

It's been such a long time...

Hello,
It's been a long time since the last time I blogged.  During that time I have had some ups and downs in the steno life.  I have slacked on my classwork and then I have gotten back on track.

I am still pushing to pass the 100wpm test.  I can feel myself so close, yet far enough not the pass.  In July, I inquired about a school named, College of Court Reporting.  I called and immediately I was hooked on their philosophy.  They offer LIVE classes for online students.  That is what I have been craving.  The feeling of being in a classroom, online.  After trying out the free pass for  two weeks, I was ready to enroll.  I started the enrollment process and I was accepted in a month.  I begin classes in two weeks and I am already excited about my first day.  I feel like it's my first day in court reporting school.

I am still practicing during my 2-week vacation to keep my skills up.  My have set high, yet attainable expectations for myself.  And with the help of CCR, I will meet all my expectations.

Back in the Saddle

I've received my machine and software and I am getting my practice on.  I love learning a new language and what better language to learn but Steno.  This is just week one and I can feel my fingers moving.  Sometimes they move with ease and sometimes they stubble over easy words, especially when I working on speed building.

I have been using the book, "Magnum Steno; Write Short - Write Fast" and I can feel the speed kick in when I choose to write short. Next week I have work on sticking to my schedule better.  Sticking to the schedule will help me get more work done.

Here are some of the most common words that I worked on from my dictation:
good morning ~ G-RNG
release ~ R-LS
quarter ~ KWAERT
associate ~ SOERBT
conference ~ K-FRNS
express ~ SKPRESZ
recommend ~ REM
disarmament ~ SDARMT
humanity ~ HAOUMT
righteousness ~ RAOIFPS
impelled ~ KBELD
thereto ~ THR-T

Happy Practicing to all my fellow Stenos.

Practicing is the name of the game...

Practice time was very productive.  I worked on the phrases that end in ~these and ~those.  Thank you, Magnum Steno.

In theory my teacher, Ms. Corrine Sorensen, had us write "homework" eight times each.  We hated it, but we did it.  After writing it out eight times each, it seems to work and it has gotten me this far.  So I decided to practice the most common words and writing them out eight times each.  Thank you, Ms. Sorensen

I also worked on some print work that spoke about the Fourth of July.  I have to keep practicing to build the muscle memory.  Thank you, Lady Steno.

Practice makes perfect

Today was a day that I began eager to practice, however, that eagerness did not seem to remain with me.  I had so many distractions: the television, the computer, and my cell phone.  I had to pull myself back each time.  I practiced on some high speeds, low speeds and some briefs and phrases.

Some of the brief I practiced were:
      by the way               BAE
      right now                 ROUN
      proposel                  P-RPL
      very truly yours        V-RLS
      procedure                PROER
      in the event              NEVNT
      installation               SNAULGS
      in addition               NIGS

What I practice with day is the Magnum Steno "Write Short-Write Fast" book.  It has been a great investment for school.  Today I learned to add "these" and "those" at the end of a phrase.  Allowing me to shorten my writing.  This is a book I recommend to anyone trying to write faster with better accuracy. Go to Magnumsteno.com and hrough the website, you can try out the Magnum Steno club for a week at no cost to you.  I loved it so much, I join the same day.  Thanks, Mark Kislingbury.

Happy Practicing!!!

Get Ready...Set...Go!

I have been in court reporting school since 2008. I had a family emergency and had to move to a new state and attend school online.

I took a semester this past term off from school and now I'm getting ready to return in one week. I can feel my speed has slowed down and I need to get it back up. My goal is to pass two 100 wpm tests by end of June.
